7 Awesome Gifts from Apple

7 Awesome Gifts from Apple …
I’ve been a fan of Apple since seventh grade, when the only three computers we had in our school were old Macs. They were so cool, even way back then, and now, they’re the ultimate in coolness. It’s positively square to use a PC (which, by the way, I use), and as we all know, Apple also made MP3 players cool… what can’t they do? This holiday season, there’s probably at least one Apple product in everyone’s wish list — including mine. Here are 7 awesome gifts from Apple.

1. Apple iPad

Apple iPad
Price: $499.00 to $829.00 at store.apple.com
If you need a little computing and a lot of cool, and happen to be a devoted Apple fan, then this is a must-have, totally worth being good for the entire year to make sure Santa puts it under the tree. Apps. Games. Reading. EVERYTHING, except a phone.

2. Apple MacBook

Apple MacBook
Price: $999.00 at store.apple.com
This and the Macbook Air are the ultimate in portable computing, and in coolness. Anyone with one of these has the right to a little swagger, and one of these would be a great gift for any student on your list.

3. Apple iPod Touch

Apple iPod Touch
Price: $229.00 to $399.00 at store.apple.com
This is the iPod that’s at the top of everyone’s list, especially the teenagers. It’s basically an iPhone only without the phone, or an iPad without the computing power. It’s amazing, and comes in three storage capabilities, hence the pricing difference.

4. Apple iPod Nano

Apple iPod Nano
Price: $149.00 to $179.00 at store.apple.com
The new Nano is just a little larger than the tiny Shuffle, only with more storage space, tools, and a video screen. It also comes in a range of colors, so you’re bound to find one your Apple lover will, well, love!

5. Apple iPod Shuffle

Apple iPod Shuffle
Price: $49.00 at store.apple.com
This is the iPod I have for using at the gym. It’s tiny, lightweight, and can hold every song you need to get through your workout, and then some, from warm up to cool down. It’s so convenient, too, because it clips right onto your waistband or the sleeve of your shirt. And it comes in so many colors!

6. Apple iPhone

Apple iPhone
Price: $99.00 to $299.00 at store.apple.com
In spite of what the Droid users say, the iPhone and its millions of apps is still pretty cool. Anything you can think of, from online banking to playing “Amazing Grace” on the pan flute, well, there’s an app for that.

7. Apple Mac Mini

Apple Mac Mini
Price: $699.00 to $999.00 at store.apple.com
Yes, Apple does still make traditional desktop computers, but of course, even in this, they have to up the coolness ante. This dinky little thing is a mega-powerful Mac. Seriously. It’s ideal for anyone who doesn’t need the portability of a laptop, and still wants to use a Mac.
Those are just a few of the completely awesome products I know will be on everyone’s holiday gift wish list this year, but I’m sure there are more. And they’re all cool. VERY cool. Just like the commercials. Which of these Apple products do you want this year? Or is there one that I somehow missed? Please let me know!

AMD Radeon 6970 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 Battle At Rs. 24,000 Mark

The star of the AMD Radeon 6000 series is the HD 6970, now available in India, and does battle with the GeForce GTX 570 and GeForce GTX 480 graphics cards from Nvidia's stable. Both sides now have graphics cards  officially available out in the market, available for the end-user. Asus, MSI and Zotac are some of the brands that already offer products from one or both sides (as AMD and Nvidia are rivals in discreet 3D graphics cards).AMD_Radeon_6970_and_Nvidia_GTX_570_Battle_At_Rs

Performing approximately around the same levels, the AMD Radeon HD 6970, and the GeForce GTX 570 / GTX 480 are also priced pretty much around the same price point at retail - Rs. 24,000 excluding taxes. Whichever side manages to drop pricing due to competition among brands, will have a better shot at gaining market-share. Of course, the generous memory onboard the Radeon 6970 (2GB) versus that on the GeForce GTX 570 (1280 MB) also helps.

As happened with the previous generation, AMD is seemingly not targeting the absolute performance peak with a single-GPU graphics card. That duty would fall to the Radeon HD 6990, which presumably would be a dual-GPU graphics card with two Radeon 6950 GPUs cross-fired internally. In the Radeon 5000 series line-up, the peak was occupied by the dual-GPU Radeon 5970.

For now, Nvidia still owns the peak performance in consumer-level graphics cards, with its GeForce GTX 580. The Radeon HD 6850 turned out to perform a lot like a Radeon 5850 flying in "hold mode" and the Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 turned out to be a strong opposition contender. So those who want a high-end graphics card from AMD would need to look at the Radeon 6900 series. Stay tuned for a review of the AMD Radeon 6970, from us at PCW India

Beware! The 9 top cyber threats for 2011

Cyber security continues to be a grey area and one could say that the threat perception has always been on upward swing.
The year 2010 saw the deadly Stuxnet worm among others shaking up the security system.
The year 2011 is not expected to be any different as cyber criminals will look to target major platforms such as Adroid, Apple software and those which have not yet been exposed to a security risk.
In addition to this 2011 will also see politically motivated attacks as groups are expected to repeat the WiKiLeaks paradigm.
McAfee has outlined the top threats for the year 2011 and the list comprises Google's Android, Apple's iPhone, foursquare, Google TV and the Mac OS X platform, which are all expected to become major targets for cybercriminals.
