Epic has announced that it will be showcasing the "next-gen" iteration of its highly successful Unreal Engine 3 at the Game Developer Conference (GDC) next week. A demonstration of the brand new tool set for the game engine will be restricted to "select licensees, partners, prospective customers and the media behind closed doors" at the San Francisco event, which starts on February 28.
Speaking about the upcoming showcase, Epic president Mike Capps said, "This technology demonstration is nothing short of breathtaking. It reminds me of when we first showed Unreal Engine 3 to the world and people were amazed. It's like seeing the Unreal Engine all over again for the very first time."
Ever since Epic, with its ace programmer Tim Sweeny, released the original Unreal, which sported an advanced engine with support for coloured lighting, it has proven to be a formidable contender to id Software in terms of graphics technology. Unreal Engine 3 has been a resounding success, with every major developer across platforms utilising the advanced game engine in their titles. Therefore, the new avatar of the Unreal Engine is keenly anticipated by every major player in the gaming industry
