House of the Future could be a green solution to urban housing predicaments

Designed by Kuangyi Tao from Texas A&M University, College of Architecture, The House of The Future is an exceptional housing project, that is supposedly an answer all the problems plaguing the modern urban fabric including - overcrowding, shortage of resources and ‘pseudo’ world development. Well as they say, “wonders never cease!” this project is inspired extraordinarily by images of body cells depicted in the movie - The Matrix.

The concept of the dwelling is based on the analogous yet singular system of energy and information exchange. The basic framework of the house will be an extension of the Memory Alloy tubes of the infrastructure system. The overlaying ’skin’ will act as a heart. The material used, will be electro-responsive and would be able to expand or contract under different electrical stimulations, just like cardiac muscles. Overtly ‘biological’ as it may seem, this also serves a genuinely practical purpose - it will be responsive to changes in daylight and situations. For example, higher occupancy in a room is supposed to result in higher voltage, causing the skin to expand and allow more space. STEM algae, embedded in the skin will react to different amounts of sunlight, allowing it to become either more opaque or translucent.
As if kept as generous afterthoughts - the skin will also generate oxygen to purify the atmosphere. Overgrown algae can be composted as bio-fuel, and the extra fuel will be fed back to the city. Other tubes buried in the skin will distribute water and energy throughout the house
