It is one thing to be inspired by nature and incorporate some of its elements into your building design. But things a whole new turn when you try and mimic it in order to become one with the surroundings. That is exactly what the creators of Hotel Ribno in Bled, Slovenia have tried to accomplish and while the end result is still a couple of years away, the design seems both dazzling enough to capture our attention.
The project was to build a grand luxury hotel on the edge of woodland cliff and the designers were asked to create a structure that does not prove to be an intrusion for the landscape. So, they decided to go with a hotel design that looks more like a mountain range from a satellite picture with sharp series of peaks.
The design was inspired by the tops of coniferous trees and the rest of the Ribno design borrows from the local Slovenian architectural elements. Trying to merge in with a natural setting is hard enough, but accomplishing that while keeping the luxurious features intact makes the process all the more laudable. While the rooms of the hotel are placed below, the peaks with height differences as used as wellness centers, meeting halls and as parking spaces.
The design of the Ribno allows it to stay connected underground as rooms are provided with sufficient ventilation and modern amenities to keep you happy. We would love to see the lavish new place when done and hope more promoters of eco-tourism follow suite and try to bring holiday spots that do not disturb the natural setting of a habitat.
