Cement made from rice husk to bring emissions down

rice husk
Researchers from the Universities of Dundee and Bath are working with Indian colleagues under the UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) project to develop cement from environmentally benign rice husks. They hope that the rice husks, already burnt during the thrashing process, could easily mix with the concrete to further reduce the burning time.
Dr Kevin Paine, cement expert, says…
Reducing the emissions produced by it could make a real difference to climate change... For example, in India, you might burn rice husks to make silica to mix with the cement; in the UK, you might use fly ash made from burning coal.
If researchers succeed in developing the new cement, global warming could be put a check on as producing cement dust accounts for about 5 percent of global emissions
