Eco-art pioneers who have focused their work on environmental issues like global warming since 1974 present their latest extraordinary artwork. Helen Mayer and Newton Harrison’s latest project called the ‘Greenhouse Britain’ features models and renderings focused on the Earth’s rising sea levels, strategies for survival and alternative futures. If you wish to take a glimpse into the work, then visit the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley where it is on display these days.
While at one end, the exhibit has a terraformed map of England and Scotland with six projectors hovering above the piece with images cast onto the surface, visually simulating the rising water levels, we still have some sustainable solutions being presented to show the situation is not as bad. The walls show various strategies for transplanting villages to the mountains, creating damns to protect cities from storm-surges, and examining the cultural impact of each new body of water created by the rising seas. This ingenious artwork is sure to jolt the eco-consciousness in you.
